Summer Reading Program: Raqqin' the Kasbah
TarabRaqs' performance for library summer reading programs, Raqqin' the Kasbah, feature one hour of live music on traditional Middle Eastern instruments, classical and folk-inspired belly dance, and interactive lessons in rhythm, melody, dance, language, and geography. Dedicated to education through entertainment, TarabRaqs presentations engage audiences from the very young to those of advanced years with performances of dance and demonstrations of eastern vs. western melodies. Audiences learn to clap the principal rhythm of the Middle East, enunciate Arabic and Turkish words, dance a traditional line dance called the debke, and identify age-old instruments.
